2018's midriff
Recently, the midriff has made it's appearance in the last few years. Fashion trends allay seem to be changing, but the midriff is something that doesn't get old. Though, it did seem to go away for a little bit, but made its comeback in 2014-2015. The midriff was so highly looked up to during the early 2000s. This is because pop sensations, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera made them a hit. Britney states that "your body is your biggest asset." The revealing of the stomachs apparently made you 'cool.' But I do believe that this enforces a specific body standards among girls and even boys. Nowadays, you have to be a certain body type or physique in order to show off your body. Crop tops, tube tops, halter tops, are forms of clothing articles that reveal your midriff. I feel like a lot of girls become insecure if they see other girls showing off their entire midriff. Though I am not a girl, I do wear crop tops and I do feel insecure around girls who wear them too. I always have the need to suck in my stomach or pull my jeans up even more to hide that I have some excess weight. As you can see, this girl looks totally unhealthily small. I mean her top shows a skeleton....
Celebrities who wear these sorts of clothing are often people who wear a size three of less. Kylie Jenner does this. Rihanna does this. Beyonce does this. And even though I love all of them, I do feel like it ultimately hurts the body image of young, impressionable girls. I feel like I have definitely been in that situation, where I felt less than because of what my body looked like. It totally sucks and I hate it. But on the other hand, I do feel like it's a very cute trend that everyone should have the confidence for. Who care if you aren't the body size that people say can't wear revealing clothes? Who cares if you aren't a size zero? Who's to say that you body isn't flattering?
Your body is perfect the way you are. This midriff thing has been going on for a while. We all might as well jump on the bandwagon and have some fun.
Your body is beautiful.
