the impact of women and men
Social media has such a great impact on both women and men. According to the documentary that we watched, media affects a women's motivation and body image. We are able to see this because of the statistics that they use. These statistics are shocking, since it showcases how women are very much the minority in our society. There are very few women in the entire government, in which they are overpowered by men. Girls and women lose their motivation in actually part-taking in government, since they are told at a young age that women shouldn't do so. There was a part in the documentary that showed how a lot of little girls wanted to become president of the United States of America, but as they got older, only one girl out of about five boys wanted to strive to become the president. I think that this is the case because men are very egotistical. Boys are taught that they are superior, which is totally not the case. Men can't do half the things that women are able to do. Women are so put down in our society that it leads for them to become self-loathing. A major thing that girls resort to are eating disorders. I think that its so sad to see how a lot of girls want to achieve an unrealistic body standard, when they could just love themselves. Speaking from experience, I was so hateful towards my own body and I wanted a body that all the Instagram girls had, but I just had to realize that my health and happiness was more important than impressing everyone around me.
As for boys, they are told that they are better than women from a young age. In addition, boys are all so caught up in video games that showcase hyper-masculinity, that they hide away their emotions in order to fit it. In society, boys are told that they should not cry or shown any sort of emotion, but by doing so, boys are ultimately just becoming robots without any feelings. Though video games aren't the only things that contribute to this, video games are a way for boys to resort to when they don't have things to do. In the documentary, there was a scene of Grand Theft Auto, where a man was viciously beating a women with a bat and she pretty much just laid unconscious on the floor. Though this was an over-exaggeration, it shows a big extent of how companies are affecting boys.
