sunday songs : last summer
On Saturday, a band consisting of six sisters, named Cimorelli, posted a music video that I definitely related to. In order of appearance, the sisters go Dani, Christina, Amy, Lisa, Katherine, and Lauren. Each sister has a different storyline, which allows for the four minute and twenty seconds to be impactful and memorable. It gives a off a nostalgic tone, as well as tones of sorrow and comfort. The lighting in this video has a lot of natural light, but also artificial light in the last few scenes with Lauren. The camera angles focuses on each of the sisters' capturing their raw emotions. Since they write their own songs, they pour all of what they have into their music. The color scheme of the entire video is very muted with Dani, Amy, Christina, and Lauren. With Katherine and Lisa, the colors are entirely bright and lively. I think this was because of how the other four girls are going through something emotionally exhausting and tiring. Katherine and Lisa seem to having the time of their lives. They are both spending time with their significant others and they carry big smiles on their faces.
I think this music video can appeal to the typical teenage age group to the mid twenties. In Dani's scenes, we see her hanging with her best friends, but once they meet up with their guy friend, Dani is overcome with a feeling of being a third-wheel. Christina's scene shows her in the car with her boyfriend, as they seem to be in an argument, where she feels like she is trapped in a relationship with someone who isn't putting the same effort as her. Amy is sitting at a table, with three 'friends' and they all seem to ignore her and take pictures without her. Katherine and Lisa are having fun with their boyfriends, while Lauren goes to a party, in which could represent how RECKLESS teens could be. With this, we can understand that Lauren is afraid of being PEER-PRESSURED into drugs and alcohol from a boy that she feels deeply for.
I think this music video captures many significant moments in one's life. All of these stories are so relatable. I can relate to Amy's and Lauren's story. I always feel like I'm the odd one out, since I am the only guy in the friendship. It's sad to see how I'm treated differently because of how I am, even though a friendship has been built over a long period of time. With Lauren's story, I can definitely relate because of how she doesn't want to drink and smoke, and the guy that she is with seems to hint that he wants to, hence why she leaves the party by herself.
I genuinely think that everyone should watch this video because it shows the sides of stories that people don't want to talk about, since they are too afraid of what others think about them. Please take the time to watch this video, thank you. :)
I have been following Cimorelli for a while now, as I feel an emotional connection to them through their music. I admire their raw talent and praise them for being one of the few girl groups to stay together as they ride the treacherous waves of the industry. The amount of emotion and heart they pour into their craft is what keeps me connected and engaged, and I admire the realness they portray to their audience. I appreciate how open they are about many topics, and I feel as if they are the six older sisters I never got to have (as I grew up with three older brothers). I enjoyed this song and music video and cannot wait for new music!
