Amongst the drama and the scandals, it was stated that Tristan Thompson had been cheating on his long term girlfriend, Khloe Kardashian. The two announced their pregnancy after about a year of dating. Khloe Kardashian was expecting a girl with Tristan and once she went into labor, the scandals started to swarm the media. Tristan Thompson was allegedly found out with another woman nights before, taking her to his hotel room. The woman that Thompson had brought into hotel was supposedly Lani Blair. She was also found leaving his hotel room with an LV bag in her hand.
The two news reports that I have used to report on this topic is US Magazine and Hollywood Life. In my opinion, I feel like the two articles are similar, but the use of language is way different with each other. I think the reason why I feel like the two are different is because of the way the information is presented and the tone that is being used.
In US Magazine, I think that the information is way more sophisticated and mature. They use quotes and dates to show the time frame. The author used a date to show how Thompson was seen with two other ladies back in October. I think that the author takes the side of Khloe Kardashian because of how it almost seems like they are disappointed in Thompson's actions. In addition, they use quotes from another source that makes Thompson seem like he's demeaning women, "He likes exotic or non-American-looking woman with big butts." Though the information is presented in a sophisticated way, they also seem to slightly bash Thompson for his actions.
In Hollywood Life, the information seems to be scattered, but still there. They use titles, such as The Revenge Body Host and The Cleveland Cavalier Player, quite often. Though the other article used it, I felt like this one emphasized it even more to show off the two's status of stardom. This article uses the phrases, She fears, She is terrified, and She is also nervous. The author only uses those words because of how an outside 'source' said it and not Khloe herself. The author seems to make Khloe Kardashian seem more clingy and paranoid about the situation, within reason, but I still feel like Khloe should be able to speak for herself.
All in all, I can definitely see how the two different sides can make an event seem almost different through diction, quotations, and through the facts.

ReplyDeleteI agree that the second source used diction and word choice that was not clear. They made the situation seem less horrible then it was. The first source seemed like it was very straight forward and that means there is good diction. I think that the first source is a better source of information on this event.
I couldn't agree more. Though the first source is indirectly biased towards Khloe (as am I), it uses facts and clear reasoning to portray the allegations against Tristan. On the other hand, the second source uses very unclear sources to depict Khloe as a nervous wreck. Overall, the Us Magazine proves to be the more reliable source through its correct diction and specific word choice.
ReplyDeleteThe first source seemed to be a lot more straight forward and evidence based, which makes me more inclined to side with that side of the story. However, I do think it would be interesting to know which one is actually more true, and how reading only one of these articles would shape someones ideas on the issue.
